2. Search For a Vegan Medical Specialist Online

If there are no doctors listed here, the try using some of these websites for locating a vegan medical specialist.

Physicians for Responsible Medicine (PCRM.) This database will help you to find a vegan health care professional in your area. You can search for providers by location, city and state. https://www.pcrm.org/findadoctor/

Plant-Based Docs Directory (Plantrician Project)  Search for doctors by name, profession and specialty by city, state and zip code. https://plantbaseddocs.com/

3. Determine Which Vegan Medical Specialists Are In Your Insurance Network

If you have insurance, contact your provider to find out who is in your network. Usually you can check online by logging into your insurance provider’s website. Or call the toll free number or email for inquiries. Usually there is also a “chat” where you can get answers right away. Find out if you will have out-of-pocket costs for seeing a specialist. Using in-network providers is usually cheaper. But out-of-network providers may still be partially reimbursed. Find out what your options are upfront, so that there are no surprises.

4. Read The Reviews and Dig Deeper

Once you find an in-network provider, then look to see if they would be a good match for you. Understandably, you would like them to be vegan. Are they new or experienced? Do they have a long-standing practice? You want your vegan medical specialist to have an empathic bedside manner and be a good listener. Take a look at their online reviews. Find out as much as you can about the doctor’s educational background, reputation, certification-status and hospital affiliations.

5. Make an Appointment

After you’ve narrowed down the list to a few choices, it’s time to make your appointment with the medical specialist. If they are in high demand, there may be a waiting list. Sometimes, it takes wait weeks or months for an appointment. Are you willing to wait or is it better to find another doctor who will see you right away?

6. Be Prepared for Your Appointment

Make a list of questions that you want to ask the medical specialist. You’ll want to discuss your medical history and list of current medications. Bring any records, home monitoring or imaging files with you to your visit. Also, watch how the specialist responds to you. If they’re not listening or taking your concerns seriously, then they probably aren’t a good fit for you.

7. If It’s Not a Good Fit, Then Keep Searching

A doctor can have good credentials but they may still not be a good fit. They may be overworked and can’t give you the attention you need. By devoting time and attention to your case, specialists can find the root cause of your condition. If you’re not comfortable with the medical specialist, it’s okay to look elsewhere.
